The Little Corner of the World That Feels Like Home
If you were to visit my home, there’s one place I’d almost certainly want to share with you. It’s not a grand studio filled with expensive supplies. It isn’t a mountain overlook or a secluded beach. It’s a simple swing tucked beside a small water garden in my backyard.
To most people, it might seem like just another corner of a garden. A few flowers sway in the breeze. Water gently trickles over smooth stones. Dragonflies occasionally dance above the pond while birds stop in for a drink before disappearing into the trees.
To me, it’s something much more. It’s where life slows down.
Some mornings I’ll carry my first cup of coffee outside before the day has a chance to become busy. Other evenings, after the work is finished and the sun begins slipping behind the trees, I’ll sit there with no agenda at all.
- No phone.
- No deadlines.
- No expectations.
Just the sound of moving water and the quiet reminder that nature never seems to be in a hurry. I’ve learned that creativity doesn’t always arrive while I’m painting or taking photographs. Sometimes it appears while watching the ripples spread across the pond after a bird lands for a drink. Sometimes it’s hidden inside the colors of a butterfly that pauses just long enough to be noticed. Sometimes it’s simply found in the stillness. When I leave that little swing, I rarely carry anything in my hands. But I almost always carry home a new idea.
- A color palette.
- A photograph waiting to be taken.
- A journal entry.
- A painting.
- Or simply a renewed appreciation for the ordinary beauty that surrounds me every single day.
I’ve come to believe that everyone needs a place like this. Not because it’s beautiful. But because it reminds us to notice what already is.
A Quiet Thought
Sometimes the sweetest moments in life are found when we finally slow down enough to notice them.
Before You Go…
Thank you for spending a few quiet moments in my favorite corner of the world. I hope this story encourages you to find your own peaceful place, whether it’s in your backyard, your neighborhood, or somewhere you’ve loved for years but haven’t truly paused to appreciate.
Sometimes the greatest adventures begin with simply sitting still.
With gratitude, Nancy
