Every painting begins with a feeling.

I’ve always loved the quiet beauty that follows a fresh snowfall. Everything seems to slow down, and even the simplest scenes, a lantern glowing in the evening or a cardinal perched nearby, feel full of meaning.

As I painted this piece, I imagined arriving home after a winter walk, greeted by the soft light of a welcoming lantern and the cheerful sight of a cardinal waiting nearby.
